It really made me want to re-watch after taking your view, observations into consideration. Admittedly I didn't give the film that much of a try.

Your observations of March here, he would smile about! I loved your trivia, the extras you provided us. Especially on E. Venable who doesn't get enough love.

A stellar contribution to March on March.
Cheers!
PagePagehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15063277863578004836noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3193750673421600279.post-57242105939530145042012-04-09T19:34:08.190-07:002012-04-09T19:34:08.190-07:00Grandoldmovies: Thanks for commenting. You may be o...Grandoldmovies: Thanks for commenting. You may be onto something with your comments on March as the European aristocrat. Granted, he's supposed to ring false since he's playing a part, but I feel March's performance here becomes stronger the less...baggage he brings to it. He really nails Death's opening and closing scenes.Aubynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00446079492480611898noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3193750673421600279.post-34664959768261333312012-04-09T11:00:03.639-07:002012-04-09T11:00:03.639-07:00Great post, with many lovely insights (I like your...Great post, with many lovely insights (I like your analysis of Death's relationship with the Grazia character). I think the role was an unusual one for March, who usually came across as the sophisticated but virile American in his performances; posing as an European aristocrat allowed him to bring out a more sardonic, nuanced touch (but perhaps his American quality is why the monocle looks like an affectation and not an essential part of his costume). As usual, your writing is wonderful!grandoldmovieshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10773085288675763855noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3193750673421600279.post-8723022166259796122012-04-04T19:13:41.275-07:002012-04-04T19:13:41.275-07:00Hamlette: Yes, it's out there and well worth a...Hamlette: Yes, it's out there and well worth a lock.

The Gal Herself: Gail Patrick is a delight. She's quite enjoyable here, and frankly, if I'd been Death, I would have picked her over Grazia. Your writing is clever (esp. the monocle comment) and helps overcome my predisposition to dismiss the movie because I started to watch "Joe Black" once and was unimpressed. I adore Gail Patrick, never more than when she's playing a sophisticated woman of the world, and will have to give this classic a viewing. The Gal Herselfhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02566779726191649848noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3193750673421600279.post-43240903990712438882012-04-02T10:55:18.442-07:002012-04-02T10:55:18.442-07:00I didn't realize this was available on YouTube...I didn't realize this was available on YouTube! I understand what it's like to be dependent on hit-or-miss online sources so believe me, I know your pain. While we all like to feel special, it can be a lot of fun to compare and contrast other people's takes on the same film. I'm off to go read your review now. I'm curious to see what you think.Aubynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00446079492480611898noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3193750673421600279.post-53998217698711608682012-03-25T20:34:34.361-07:002012-03-25T20:34:34.361-07:00I loved your post on this film, but I'd like y...I loved your post on this film, but I'd like you to know that I too did a review on this film for the same blogathon. I had no idea that anyone was already doing a review on the same movie (my first choice was Smilin' Through with Fredric March and Norma Shrear, but it got taken off of youtube before I could watch it, and Death Takes a Holiday had been my fall back). Had I known that you or anyone were going to do the same movie, I wouldn't have done it so I apologize. The only similarities I really found is that we ued a couple of the same pictures, but your review goes way more in depth than mine. So, I just wanted to say I'm sorry. I didn't mean to.Runellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12585027296827690176noreply@blogger.com
