The New Year's Movie Meme

The Girl with the White Parasol has just hit 50 followers! Guys, I'm so thrilled. I mean, I know I shouldn't wax rhapsodic over my follower count. After all, blogging is a serious creative endeavor and I'm only in it for the art and...and...ah, screw it, I love having followers. I love knowing that people are reading this blog and thinking about it. I want you to know how much I appreciate having such smart, funny, and kind readers. You're the best.

I thought a lot about what I'd do to mark this special occasion. Normally, I might just post pictures of people throwing confetti but you know, I wanted to do a little more. And I realized that what I've been missing lately is a good movie meme. I love movie memes; it's so much fun for me to read people's answers and find out about their tastes. And now that I have more readers, I'm eager to find out more about them.

So, I've decided to roll up my sleeves and just send my own little meme out into the blogosphere. 12 random movie-related questions for any out there who want to post their answers. If you do decide to answer, please post the meme on your blog, with a link back. And if you'd like to respond but don't have a blog, I invite you to give your answers in the comment section. Feel free to tag as many people as you wish.

Here it is, The New Year's Movie Meme. Yes, I know it's a little early for New Year's but I had to think of something for the title. I couldn't just call it Random Movie Meme.

1. What is your all-time favorite Grace Kelly costume?

2. What classic film would you nominate for a remake?

3. Name your favorite femme fatale.

4. Name the best movie with the word "heaven" in its title.

5. Describe the worst performance by a child actor that you’ve ever seen (since Laura gave me the idea).

6. Who gets your vote for most tragic movie monster?

7. What is the one Western that you would recommend to anybody?

8. Who is your ideal movie-viewing partner?

9. Has a film ever made you want to change your life? If so, what was the film?

10. Think of one performer that you truly love. Now think of one scene/movie/performance of theirs that is too uncomfortable for you to watch.

11. On the flip side, think of one really good scene/performance/movie from a performer that you truly loathe.

12. And finally, since it will be New Year's soon, do you have any movie or blogging-related resolutions for 2012?

Have fun, guys! Hope to see you in 2012!

  10. Rachel, this looks like fun! Here are my answers to your meme questions:
    1. Lisa Fremont's B&W dress REAR WINDOW dress.
    2. Instead of remaking classics, I say remake "meh" movies into great ones. Wouldn't mind giving VERTIGO a more hopeful ending, though!
    3. Barbara Stanwyck, DOUBLE INDEMNITY.
    4. HEAVEN CAN WAIT.
    5. Any child actor who acts and sounds too much like a mini-adult!
    6. KING KONG, GODZILLA, and the Ymir from 20 MILLION MILES TO EARTH.
    7. SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SHERIFF and HIGH NOON.
    8. Family and friends who love the film, too!
    9. THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY. It made me a fan of James Thurber's writing; introduced me to the incomparable Danny Kaye; and its underlying theme of becoming strong and courageous enough to not let people walk all over you.
    10. Male Actor: Robert Mitchum in CAPE FEAR and NIGHT OF THE HUNTER.
Female Actor: Gene Tierney in LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN
    11. I usually don't care for Steve Guttenberg, but he was good in DINER.
    12. More time to write and blog! :-)
Thanks for letting me blather away on your fun meme, Rachel! Happy New Year to you and yours from all of us here at Team Bartilucci H.Q.!

  12. Dorian: Thanks so much for your answers. Steve Guttenberg's career is kind of a mystery to me. He generally had the personality of Miracle Whip.

Dawn: I hope you will. I'd love to read them.

  13. Congratulations on reaching the big 5-0, and I'm sure it wont be long before you're celebrating 100 followers.
Here are my answers to your meme.

    1. I’ll echo my friend Dawn at Noir And Chick Flicks and choose Grace’s blue gown from To Catch A Thief
    2. The Big Sleep if it was faithful to the novel. Although I can’t think of any current actors of the calibre to carry it off.
    3. Michelle Pfeiffer’s JoAnn Valenari from Tequila Sunrise
    4. The original Heaven Can Wait.
    5. I’m too soft hearted to put the boot into any child actor.
    6. I can’t look any further than King Kong.
    7. That is a very tough one. If pushed I’ll say Dances With Wolves.
    8. My Mother, because she’ll watch anything without complaint.
    9. No, although there have been many occasions I’ve wanted to jump through the screen to be a part of a film.
    10. I find Meg Ryan’s amazing transformation in the film In The Cut far too raw to watch again.
    11. I’ve never really taken to Leo DiCaprio but I thought he was great in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?
    12. My main blogging resolution is to sort out the problems with my Blogger account.

  16. What a fun little meme this is. (I heard about it through Dawn's Noir and Chick Flicks blog.)

I'm joining in and have posted my answers at my blog, They Don't Make 'Em Like They Used To.

Did you answer the questions so we can see your take on things?

By the way, congratulations on reaching the milestone #50.

  17. Paul: Thanks for posting. I'm intrigued by the idea of a remake of The Big Sleep. I never read the source material, but it might be interesting to see a different take on it. I'm sorry to hear you've been having problems with Blogger.

Dorian: All actors should be rated according to what food product they remind you of. :)

Patti: Glad to have you around. I thought about posting my answers, but I kind of wanted to see what people would come up with on their own. I might post my own responses later on. And thanks for the congrats.

  22. Hi Rachel,

First time here. Fun questions. Here goes......

1.Gotta go with the blue gown from " To Catch a Thief". Grace looked great in anything though.
2.I'm kind of adverse to the idea of remaking classics. If I had to choose it would be "North by Northwest".
3.I love Dolores Gray doing "Thanks a Lot But No Thanks" from "It's Always Fair Weather". It has wonderful femme-power symbolism.
4."Pennies From Heaven". Steve Martin is so multitalented. I like Bernadette Peters.
5.The acting in the old "Lil' Rascals" serials etc. is kind of awkward. I would expect that from such young actors. I still find it charming anyhow.
6.The T-rex from "Valley of Gwangi".
7."Silverado" Lots of fun, it has neat action, and it's loaded with great actors.
    8.My wife and kids.
9."The Right Stuff" because it inspired me to get into aviation.
10.Bruce Dern in "Silent Running". It's such a good but depressing movie. Bruce is so convincing in the role that its hard to watch.
11.Loathe Jane Fonda but she was good in "on Golden Pond".
12.My resolution is to never make any resolutions.
