An incredibly versatile actress and a friend who had personal experiences with her said she was a kind and lovely woman in private life.I've seen most of her films, I Am A Camera has remained maddeningly elusive!, and have never been disappointed in her performance. Also saw her in The Belle of Amherst on stage and there aren't enough words to describe how brilliantly amazing she was. A treasured memory and a great loss to the world of entertainment.
I am eager to see her in The Belle of Amherst (taped version) since everybody who's seen it is quick to say how unforgettable it was. It's wonderful to hear that she was kind and generous in real life too. Elia Kazan always gave her credit for being incredibly patient and understanding with James Dean on the set of East of Eden.
Oh how sad! I did not hear about this. She was a FANTASTIC actress. Even when she appeared in an insignificant role she would play her part so beautifully that you couldn't help but notice her. Rest in peace Julie Harris. We'll miss you.
Well said. Harris really was a perfect representative of that era in American theater, the consummate stage actress. But she had so much skill that her acting style always translated well to film.
Ack,it was sad to hear the news. What a talented woman.
I was just feeling sad over the recent news about Linda Ronstadt and now Julie Harris. Not a great week for the entertainment world.
CNN.com did not even cover her passing as a news story.
I didn't know that and it saddens me. Especially when you consider the kind of paper-thin celebrity gossip that does get reported on the news...but I think we're all used to that. All I know is, next year's Oscar ceremony had better not try to snub her, none of that "she was more of a theater actress" crap.
